copies of old

One of the major aspects of my work, the copy of ancient manuscripts, can be summed up as the assiduous and thorough study of the work handed down by the great Master illuminators of the Middle Ages.

The know-how of which these Masters are the guarantors, are as many keys which allow me to open doors which, like veils which fall, let us glimpse an aspect of the Beauty sought: nobility of the materials, elegance of the line, sobriety of the harmonies, sensitivity and smoothness of the colours, requirement of quality.... It is an endless field of experimentation that is offered to my eyes and my hand. But it is also respect for tradition, humility, lucidity, perseverance, confidence and generosity in the work that the observation, study and copying of these great Masters bring me.

All the works presented here are copies whose originals can be found in medieval illuminated manuscripts preserved in various libraries around the world : Bibliothèque nationale de France, Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, British Library, Morgan Library, Getty Museum, National Library of Russia, etc.

The antique copies presented here are made in gold leaf, using high quality pigments, gum arabic and honey.
